Emily, a back, was key to the Andover High defense this past week. She controlled much of the play at the 50-yard line against Beverly, North Andover and Danvers. This week, Andover allowed only one goal in the three matches and in 18 games gave up only three in league play, and six overall. Coach Maureen Noone’s comments: “Playing the difficult post position on defensive corners, Emily often does not get the recognition she deserves. She understands her important role as a center back.”

The 6-foot, 205-pound running back, wide receiver and linebacker was a highlight in the loss to Lowell High on Friday night. He led the defense with nine tackles, two for a loss. He has had a stellar year, averaging 9.8 tackles per game. He also has five batted-down balls and eight sacks. Offensively, he has eight runs for 41 yards and 3 receptions for 24 yards. Last year, Cole caught the winning TD in the Thanksgiving Day win over Central Catholic. Cole will apply to Colby College among other fine institutions. Coach E.J. Perry’s comments: “Cole has been a mainstay on the Andover High varsity football team. He is an excellent student/athlete, recently scoring a 1940 on the SATs. He’s a leader.”
