Post 8 wins another nail-biter

Legion baseball

Andover Post 8 is perfecting the art of winning the close game.

Brooks standout Andrew Bruno single, stole second, advanced to third on an out and scored on a bunt base hit by speedy leadoff man Cam Farnham for the game's lone run in Andover's 1-0 win over Peabody Post 153 on Sunday.

This marked Andover's fifth one-run game in six outings, five turning into victories.

"Our biggest positives to date have been our pitching and defense," Andover coach Joe Iarrobino concluded. "We've got to work on being situational hitters, being smart when up in the count and hitting good pitches. We'll keep working on that."

Dustin Hunt was again dominant, allowing just two hits in his second outing of the season, striking out seven and walking just one.

Hunt allowed no Peabody runners to reach third base with huge help from catcher Mike Geaslen, who picked off a runner at second and added a caught stealing at second.

...

Eion McAvinchey and Jack Mahan combined for a one-hitter as Andover squashed Swampscott 10-0 last Wednesday. McAvinchey worked six innings, allowing just one single and striking out five, with just one walk, while Jack Mahan came on to pitch a perfect seventh.

Burton Deady led the Post 8 offense with two doubles and two RBIs while Andrew Deloury also chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs and Ben Murphy knocked in two runs for the winners.
