Naveed, relay run to wins

Boys track

Billy Baldwin, George Cardillo, Andrew Matteccui and Demetri Kostakias teamed to win the 4x400 relay and lead Andover at the MVC Freshman/Sophomore track meet on Saturday.

Hamza Naveed scored Andover’s other victory, taking first in the 300 in 39.0. Baldwin added a second in the 600 (1:33.08), Robert Pineault was second in the freshman mile (5:04.03), and adding thirds for the Golden Warriors were Andrew Matteccui (50 hurdles), Sam Roselle (50 dash) and Alex Bensely (2-mile).

Gamanche take first

Lizzie Kobelski ran to victory in the 50-meter dash in 6.5 and Jill Gamanche scored a first-place finish in the 50 hurdles in 7.3 to pace Andover at the MVC Freshman/Sophomore track meet on Saturday. Hannah Ameen placed second in the dash (6.6) and Emily O’Hara scored a second in the 50 hurdles (7.9), while Colleen Mullins was third in the mile and Meredith Van Antwerp took bronze in the 600.

Witten leads rally

Entering the final quarter with just a single basket, Jessica Witten’s eight points led a 17-2 Andover run to finish the game as the Golden Warriors rallied past Lowell 47-37 on Friday. Angelice Gonzalez stayed hot with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while Jackie Alois added seven points for the winners.

Despite 16 points for Angelice Gonzalez, Andover lost to Billerica 58-51 last Tuesday. Rebecca Alois and Devon Caveney each chipped in with 13 points for the Warriors.

Offense rolls

Four different Andover players tallied single goals as Andover topped Westford Academy 4-0 on Saturday. Brianna Deloury, Meg Leary, Weezie Gross and Meagan Keefe each scored a goal for the winners.

Andover lost to Concord-Carlisle 1-0 last Wednesday.

Warriors win MVCs

Charlie Lei and Eric Zhao teamed with Santi Alegria and Stan Camin to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.48) and joined Eric Shi and Aaron Wu to take the 400 freestyle relay as Andover rolled to victory at the MVC Meet on Friday with 378 points, well ahead of No. 2 Chelmsford (305).

Zhao scored victories in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, Shi earned a second in the 200 IM, Alex Blake scored a second in the diving, Camin was second in the 100 breaststroke, and behind him in third in the same event was Wu.

Giribaldi leads the way

Dave Giribaldi scored 17 points to lead Andover past Lawrence 67-56 last Tuesday. Jack Konevich added 13 points while Sam Dowden contributed 14 for the winners.

Jack Konevich hit three 3-pointers, but Andover lost to Lowell 61-54 on Friday. Chris Dunn added two 3’s on his way to nine points of his own.

Tarricone takes 8th

Jake Tarricone took eighth overall in 21.08, but Andover lost to undefeated St. John’s Prep 102-33 last Wednesday. Billy Baldwin took 11th in 21.21.

Wrestling

Meagher scores

quick pin

Pat Meagher scored a pin at 106 in just 0:34, but Andover lost to Pentucket 51-18 last Wednesday. Joe Solimini (160) and Matt Stamas (182) added victories for the Golden Warriors.
