---- — Middlesex honors Andover athletes

Two Andover residents earned special recognition during an afternoon assembly celebrating the end of the winter athletic season at Middlesex School on March 5.

As captain of the boys’ varsity squash team, junior Max Novick earned an All-League Honorable Mention for his skillful play this season. The son of David and Susie Novick, he will again serve as team captain in his senior year.

Sophomore Harrison Markell earned an All-League Honorable Mention for his outstanding performance on the boys’ varsity hockey squad, which made it to the quarterfinals of the New England Championships before ending the season with a 15-7-4 record. He is the son of Cliff and Ronna Markell.

Gomez sets career high against Rider

Natalie Gomez, an Andover High graduate, set a career-high with 10 points, on 4-6 shooting from the field, and grabbed four rebounds during her Marist College women’s basketball game against Rider last month.

Trailing 11-10, Marist went on a 13-1 run to take a 23-12 lead with 8:03 remainingin the first half, holding the Broncs without a field goal for a 6:40 stretch. During the stretch, Gomez sunk a driving layup as the shot clock was expiring.

The Marist women’s basketball team rolled to a 69-44 win over Rider. It was the annual Pack the House game at McCann Arena, with a season-high crowd of 2,671 dressed in white for this year’s White-Out theme.
