Colin Flynn of Andover and his travel baseball team, the New England Stampede based in Woburn, captured the 16u Cape Cod Wood Bat Tournament championship.
The tournament consisted of 15 teams from New England and New York competing during the weekend of June 21 through 23. The Stampede, a member of the wood-bat only New England Elite Baseball League, took their tournament record of 5-1 into the championship game and defeated the South Shore Hurricanes by a score of 7-1.
Flynn, who recently completed his sophomore year at Andover High School and was a starting member of the varsity baseball team this spring, pitched two complete games over the three-day Cape tournament. Combined for both outings, Flynn struck out 11 while surrendering only one earned run on just five hits to record 5-2 and 5-0 victories.
A captain for the Stampede, Flynn was also outstanding on the other side of the ball, posting a .429 batting average for the tournament.
