Nortons lead volleyball to huge comeback win

Terrance Norton scored a team-best 16 kills and T.J. Norton led with 33 assists as Andover rallied past Lowell 18-25, 14-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-9 on Friday. David Stein had seven blocks, Kyle Surehan tallied 21 digs and Eddie Powers finished with 15 service points for the winners.

Kyle Surehan recorded team-highs in service points (17, four aces) and digs (14) as Andover beat Lincoln-Sudbury in its opener 25-15, 25-23, 25-17 last Monday. Alec Dean added 14 kills and T.J. Norton had 26 assists for the winners.

Kenny Doherty had six kills and six blocks, but Andover fell to powerhouse St. John’s Prep 18-25, 25-8, 25-21, 25-16 on Monday. T.J. Norton notched 19 assists and Ryan Tjalsma had 10 service points for the Warriors.

GIRLS TENNIS

Holzman, doubles on fire

Annie Garvin and Sydney Ferry took top doubles 6-1, 6-1 to pace Andover in a 5-0 win over Notre Dame on Monday. Rachel Holzman scored a victory in top singles and Michaela Comerford and Jackie Drew won No. 2 doubles for the Warriors.

Rachel Holzman swept No. 2 singles and Samantha Camilo took top singles 6-0, 6-0 for Andover in a 5-0 victory over Tewksbury last Wednesday. Pooja Mukund won No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0, and Paige Webster and Karena Yan along with Michaela Comerford and Jackie Drew scored doubles victories.

Samantha Camilo, Rachel Holzman and Paige Webster all scored 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1-3 singles as Andover took its opener 5-0 over Billerica last Monday. Julia Alagero and Laurie-Maude Chenard added a sweep at first doubles and Annie Garvin and Sydney Ferry won second doubles 6-1, 6-0.

Julia Alagero and Laurie-Maude Chenard battled for a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, but Andover lost to Lincoln-Sudbury 3-2 on Friday. Pooja Mukund and Karena Yan added Andover’s other victory, a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Keefe starts hot

Meagan Keefe kicked off the season in style with six goals as Andover rolled over Central Catholic 14-4 last Tuesday. Jaclyn Torres added three goals, Mira Cunningham scored twice and Weezie Gross, Courtney Grygiel and Mackenzie Billings added a goal each for the winners.

Andover lost to North Andover for the first time in 10 years, 7-4 on Friday. Mira Cunningham, Meagan Keefe, Mackenzie Billings and Charlotte Lenes scored a goal each for the Warriors.

BOYS LACROSSE

Brosnan scores five

Justin Brosnan scored five goals and six teammates scored once each as Andover bested Central Catholic in its season-opener 11-5 last Tuesday. Andrew Eriksen scored once and assisted on three scores and George Cardiello, Will Reardon, Hunter Tyrrell, John Oteri and Sean Carroll added single tallies.

Justin Brosnan scored twice and Andrew Ericksen added a score but Andover fell to North Andover 8-3 on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

Bendetson sweeps

Austin Bendetson cruised to victory at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 as Andover started the spring with a 5-0 victory over Billerica last Monday. Varun Penamats added a sweep at No. 3 singles and Arun Padykula took second singles 6-1, 6-1.

Despite a victory at No. 1 single by Austin Bendetson, Andover fell to Westford Academy 3-2 on Monday. Varun Penamats scored the Warriors’ other victory, at No. 2 singles.

BOYS TRACK

Mattucci takes two

Andrew Mattucci scored victories in the high jump (5-6) and 110 hurdles (15.9) to lead Andover to an 82-44 win over Chelmsford last Wednesday. Back from his major knee injury in football, Mark Zavrl won the javelin with a 168-6 and Mike Maldari took the grueling double, winning the 800 (2:10.5) and 2-mile (10:23.8).

GIRLS TRACK

Chapman stars

Hannah Chapman did it all, winning the long jump (15-10), triple jump (36-6 ¾) and 100 hurdles (16.3) to pace Andover in a 99-44 victory over Chelmsford on Wednesday. Cassie Kobelski continued her momentum from the winter with victories in the shot put (37-0) and discus (95-2) and Andrea Pennock won the javelin for the Warriors.

SOFTBALL

Tough opener for Warriors

Eugenie Moffitt had a hit, but Andover dropped its opener 11-0 to Tewksbury on Friday.
