Serving up a state championship

Coach Hibino opens up about his winning roster

Andover High girls tennis coach Alan Hibino talks about all of his players who helped carry Andover High to the state championship title:

Samantha Camilo (senior): “Heart and soul of the team. Team MVP, captain. She is the definition of a Warrior. Not enough words to describe how much she meant to this team and to this program. She leaves behind an amazing legacy here at AHS.”

Michaela Comerford (senior): “Successfully made the transition from the lacrosse field to the tennis court. She was a great captain and did everything that she could to make sure the team had success.”

Jackie Drew (senior): “Captain, four-year player. She did an amazing job of making sure everyone on the team felt included and a part of all team activities. Kept everyone loose — before, during and after matches. She has a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm.”

Karena Yan (junior): “Made the biggest off-season improvement coming into this year. She went from 2nd doubles last year to 2nd singles this year. She dedicated herself this past off-season to improving her game. No doubt in my mind, she will work hard in the off-season and continue to get better.”

Courtney Nash (freshman): “She is the unsung hero of our team. We could always count on her to be well prepared and ready to play from the start of her matches. We could always count on her point at 3rd singles. She went undefeated this year, the only individual on the team to do so. She won big match after big match all year long. Her value and what she brings to the team does not go unnoticed by me or by any of her teammates. Her future is extremely bright and she will be able to reach any goals that she sets for herself.”
