Steve Shaw was the hero of the day, belting a three-run homer in the fourth inning that gave Andover National a 12-9 victory in Game 2 of the District 14 Championship last Thursday, July 11, tying the best-of-three series at 1-1.

“I give them a lot of credit for bouncing back after (Game 1),” Andover coach Brian Theriault said. “We’re a good hitting team. The kids hit well and played sound defense.”

Andover led by as much as 9-1 before North Andover mounded a comeback to cut the advantage to 9-6. But Shaw’s blast put National back in control, and they would take home the victory.

Andrew Theriault added to the attack with two hits, including a two-run homer, and John Gemmell added two hits over his own including a three-run blast. Alec Haffner added a hit and played stellar third base and Nick Christopher had a key double for Andover.

Shaw also came on to pitch three key innings (4th through 6th) to earn the victory and Theriault closed out the game to earn the save.

“(Andover) came out swinging the bats and obviously a bunch of home runs left the park,” North Andover coach Rob Carpentier.
