Field hockey clinic honors young player's memory

The local field hockey community will once again gather next month for the fifth annual Lauren Ciampa Memorial Field Hockey Clinic to benefit the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute,

Every year, Andover High School varsity field hockey coach Maureen Noone, assistant coaches, players and alumni come together to host a clinic in memory of one of their teammates — Andover High graduate Lauren Ciampa who lost her battle with cancer in May 2009. Ciampa played field hockey under Noone.

This year’s clinic is set for Aug. 5 and 6 at Andover High School. It is open to girls in grades 4 through 12 and will consist of two days of drills from 8 to 10 a.m. followed by scrimmages until noon.

The registration fee is $60. Players should bring a stick, mouth guard, goggles, shin guards, water bottle and a small snack.

In addition to the field hockey clinic, Ciampa’s family also runs a Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament, which will take place Monday, July 26, and a Comedy Club night in September, and participates in the Jimmy Fund Marathon Walk in September. The Jimmy Fund is important to the family for the assistance it provided during Lauren Ciampa’s illness.

For more information on the clinic and to register, go to or send registrations to Coach Maureen Noone, 5 Dodge Road, Rowley 01969. Players should include their name, age, date of birth, grade, address, city and zip code, position they play as well as email address. Participants also must sign a medical release statement. Checks should be made payable to the Jimmy Fund.
