Swimmers get in sync with, learn from Olympic medalists

Six select members of the Andover/North Andover YMCA's ANA Synchro swim team had the honor of training at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. recently under the tutelage of Olympic medalists.

ANA Synchro swimmers attending the Olympic Training Gold Clinic included Nicole Carzo of Andover, Evan Costanzo of North Andover, Kim Feng of Andover, Sachiko Hagiya of Andover, Kate Quinn of North Andover, and Anna Barnes of Ipswich.

These swimmers had the chance to learn from Karen and Sarah Josephson who won a silver medal in '88 and a gold in '92. Only athletes achieving a minimum score of 67.0 at a championship level meet were selected to attend.

Also on-hand to complement the Josephson's technical instructions was current USA Synchro president and former coach of the U.S Olympic Synchronized Swim Team, Duke Zielinski.

"Advanced techniques are nothing more than basic techniques performed to perfection, and ANA epitomizes that," Zielinski said in a release.

For young swimmers who may not be quite ready for the Olympics but are interested in synchronized swimming, ANA Synchro does have openings in its novice program. For more information contact head coach Svetlana Malinovskaya at 978-685-3541, Ext 147, or send an email to smalinovskaya@mvymca.org.
