A Better Chance of Andover and The Greater Boston Running Company are teaming up for the third annual 5K Fun Run and Walk on Sunday, April 28. The event will begin and end at the dorm/residence of The ABC House of Andover at the corner of Main and Morton streets.
The race course will remain the same, taking runners through the streets of Andover and up a scenic but challenging hill route to Highland Street and back down to the ABC house.
“We want to bring in serious runners as well as families and friends of ABC who enjoy the festive atmosphere at the house, a chance to get out and exercise and also to support us,” Mary Pritchard, president of A Better Chance of Andover, said in a press release.
This year’s entrants will compete for official race times courtesy of Bay State Race Services of Haverhill. The Greater Boston Running Company will provide prizes for the top finishers as well as race bags. Entrants will be able to pick up their race numbers at the Boston Running Company on Main Street. The first 100 registrants get a free 5K T-shirt.
Other sponsors of this year’s race include North Andover Pediatrics, Black Diamond Networks, Cedar’s Mediterranean Foods, Commonwealth Motors, Enterprise Bank, EXIT Group One Real Estate, Learning Express, New Balance Athletic Shoe, Panera Bread, Salvatore’s, TD Bank, Whole Foods, SNAP Infusion and Salvatore’s Restaurant, Andover.
Proceeds from the race benefit the local educational nonprofit that works to close the education gap by bringing outstanding minority students to Andover High School to prepare for college. More than 100 runners and many canines raced last year, raising close to $3,000 for the program. Runners can register and find out more at www.andoverabc.org/5k.
