Rothmann places at Eastern Gymnastics Championships

Emily Rothmann of Andover recently competed in the USA Gymnastics Eastern National Championships in Battle Creek, Mich. She placed third in the floor exercise, fourth in the balance beam and eighth in the all-around. In order to compete in the championships, she had to qualify in a regional competition in April.

The daughter of Steven and Margie Rothmann, Emily is a freshman at Andover High School and a level 9 gymnast at Brestyan’s American Gymnastics in Burlington. She is coached by Mihai Brestyan, Aly Raisman’s coach from the 2012 Olympics.

Going the Distance conditioning gearing up

The Going the Distance coaching service will hold its speed and conditioning program at Andover High School for 10 Mondays beginning June 10. The annual summer camp for youths age 5 to 18 goes from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the outdoor track.

The goal of the program is to develop and enhance athletes’ fitness and conditioning through sessions that improve speed, quickness, balance agility, form and sport-specific technique. Participants learn conditioning strategies for future training and continued development throughout their athletic sessions.

Athletes are grouped by age and guided each week by coaches through a variety of drills that focus on the program’s objectives. All drills are designed to maximize the ability and potential of each age group, from the youngest through a challenging program for high school athletes.
