Boys hoops victorious at TD Garden

David Giribaldi was huge on the biggest stage, scoring 26 points to lead Andover past Brookline 57-48 in a regular-season clash at the TD Garden in Boston. E.J. Perry IV added 12 points and Connor Merinder had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Warriors, who qualified for the state tournament for the 25th straight season with the victory.

E.J. Perry IV hit a pair of 3-pointers on his way to 20 points and David Giribaldi scored 25 points as Andover beat Methuen 62-44 last Thursday, Jan. 23. John Pisacreta added five points for the winners.

Campbell breaks out

Mark Campbell netted a pair of goals to lead Andover to a 3-1 victory over North Andover last Monday, Jan. 20. Brian Sargent added the other Warrior goal, while Will Sauerbrunn had two assists for the winners.

Pat Schena made 25 saves as Andover played Waltham to a 2-2 tie last Saturday. Jackie Wilkie and Brian Sargent each scored a goal for the Warriors.

Sean Enright and Matt Quercia each potted a goal, but a late shot rang off the post and the rally fell short as Andover lost to Chelmsford 3-2 last Wednesday, Jan. 22. Pat Schena made 24 saves for the Warriors.

Witten leads the way

Jessica Witten knocked down two 3-pointers en route to a game-high 19 points for Andover, which rolled past Methuen 64-39 last Friday, Jan. 24. Colleen Caveney had 16 points and Rebecca Alois and Alyssa Casey each added 10 points for the winners.

Alyssa Casey scored 12 points, but Andover was edged by Chelmsford 53-51 last Tuesday, Jan. 21. Colleen Caveney added a team-best 16 points and Rebecca Alois had 10 points for the Warriors.

Sprints earns wins

Kevin Chen won the 55-meter dash (6.6) and Andrew Matteucci took the 55 hurdles (8.0) to help Andover best Haverhill 55-31 last Tuesday, Jan. 21. Sebastian Silveira won the 600, Max Galat took the mile and the team of Dylan Epstein, Oliver Eberth, George Cardillo and Jeremy Tavaglini took the 4x400 relay for the winners.

Robery Perry scored an eighth overall in the 600 for Andover at the State Coaches Invitational last Saturday.

Mullins takes mile

Colleen Mullins won the mile (5:36.9) and Cat Donovan took the 1,000 (3:18.2) to help Andover top Haverhill 52-34 last Tuesday, Jan. 21. Lizzie Kobelski took the 55 hurdles, Hannah Ameen won the 55 dash and Wyllie Boughton took the high jump for the winners.

Alois, Leone star

Veronica Alois scored two goals and assisted on two more to lead Andover to a 4-1 win over Haverhill/Pentucket/North Andover last Thursday. Haley Driscoll added a goal and two assists and Jessica Leone scored once and assisted on another goal. Meghan Johnson had 16 saves for the winners.

Jessica Leone scored two goals as Andover handed Beverly its first loss of the season, 4-3, last Monday, Jan. 20. Mikayla Panneton and Veronica Alois each added a goal and Brianna Deloury had two assists for the winners.

Despite a Veronica Alois goal, Andover lost to Arlington Catholic 3-1 last Saturday.

Boys swimming

Mighty Max

Max Blanch won the 100 butterfly and swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay to help Andover down Chelmsford 103-83 last Saturday. Thomas Galligani took the 100 breaststroke and Santi Alegria helped lead the 200 freestyle relay for the winners.

Vince Camin won the 50 freestyle (23.97) and 100 freestyle (52.64) to lead Andover past North Andover 93.5-83.5 on Friday, Jan. 24. Eric Shi won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay and Joe Carroll took the 500 freestyle for the winners.

Eric Shi won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.43 and the 500 freestyle in 4:59.13, but Andover fell to rival Acton-Boxboro 97-89 last Tuesday, Jan. 21. Vince Camin added wins in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke and swam on the winning 200 medley relay.

Unsung heros impress

Rachel Cadet won the vault (9.0) and Katlin McDonald took the beam and was third in the bars, floor exercise and all-around to help Andover beat Chelmsford 140.05-131.25 last Wednesday, Jan. 22. Courtney Carver won the all-around.


Marcott keeps winning

Matt Marcott scored Andover’s lone win in a 45-3 loss to Lawrence last Monday, Jan. 20.

Boys Gymnastics

Warriors fall short

Evan Igoe took third place in the parallel bars and pommel horse, but Andover (160.3) lost to Newton North (178.0) and Newton South (162.0) on Friday, Jan. 24. Joseph Aronov added seconds in every individual event and the all-around for the Warriors.
