Dean, Doherty lead volleyball to thrilling win

Girls track

The trio of Cassie Kobelski, Ryan MacRae and Melissa Shattuck teamed to take first place in the shot put relay with a 99-6.25 and the discus relay with a 293-4 to help Andover take second as a team at the MSTCA Division 1 state relays on Sunday with 63 points, trailing just Newton North (73 points) and well ahead of third place Acton-Boxboro (34 points).

Even without injured star Courtney Comeau, the 4x100 shuttle hurdles team of Lizzie Kobelski, Hannah Chapman, Jillian Gamache and Olivia Soutter took second in 1:05.55. Adding thirds were the 4x100 (Sydney Gillis, Rachel Annino, Hannah Ameen, Natalie Wagner), the 4x200 (Gillis, Annino, Abbie Pustis, Wagner), the spring medley (Sarath Rothmann, Jillian Gamache, Ameen, Pustis) and triple jump (Chapman, Catherine Haut, Beatrice Ward).

Boys track

The 4x400 crew of Oliver Eberth, Hamza Naveed, Matt Reardon and Sebastian Silveira ran to victory in 3:28.20 and the javelin relay crew of Mark Zavrl, Owen Focke and Ian Bensley took first with a 423-3 as Andover placed fourth as a team at the MSTCA Division 1 state relays on Sunday with 38 points.

Eberth, Naveed, Silveira and Dylan Epstein teamed to take second in the 4x200 and Joe Vetere, Brian McDonough and Zach Ferria were third in the pole vault relay.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Dean leads thrilling win

Alec Dean scored two huge kills to swing momentum and Kenny Doherty clinched the match with two kill of his own as fought past Brockton 25-17, 18-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11 last Wednesday. Sagar Kaul kept the match alive with a big winner to give the Warriors a 26-24 win in the fourth set and Eduardo Powers led the winners with 21 service points.

Eriksen tallies winner

Andrew Eriksen picked up a Billerica turnover and scored the overtime game-winner as Andover bested Billerica 8-7. Eriksen finished the game with five goals, giving him 20 for the season, and Hunter Tyrell scored one goal and assisted on two others.
