Dean, Doherty lead volleyball to thrilling win



Sam Rowe took a tough 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles as Andover beat Haverhill 5-0 on Friday. Sam Mack took No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 and Varun Penamatsa finished the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot.


Varun Penamatsa and Sebastian Boulas won at No. 1 doubles, but Andover lost to St. John’s Prep 4-1 on Monday.


Deloury destroying

Andrew Deloury broke open a close game with a grand slam as part of a six-run sixth inning in Andover’s 14-9 win over North Andover on Monday. It came exactly one week after Deloury’s slam against Methuen.


Tim Awiszus was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, but Andover fell to Lawrence 9-6 last Wednesday. Andrew Deloury scored three runs for the Warriors.


Sam Bennett allowed just two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched, but Andover fell short to Lowell 4-3 on Friday. Cam Farnham had a hit and two RBIs and Colin Flynn added a pair of hits for the Warriors.


Torres nets seven

Jaclyn Torres scored seven goals and Weezie Gross added four scores as Andover tied Winchester 17-17 on Saturday. Meagan Keefe added three goals and Kat Geffken had 20 saves for the Warriors.


Despite two goals for Meagan Keefe, Andover fell to Framingham 14-6 on Monday


Leary explodes

Meg Leary delivered a career day with two triples, a double and three RBIs as Andover snapped its slump with a 6-2 victory over Haverhill on Friday. Eugenie Moffitt added two doubles and an RBI while Tori Roche added two hits and two RBIs and Brooke Kabriel had two hits for the winners.


Jordan Day had a hit, but Andover lost to Tewksbury 6-0 last Wednesday.
