---- — Gray repeats as New England, state champion
Mackenzie Gray of Andover, a sophomore at The Governor’s Academy in Byfield, came out shining at the New England Prep School Track Association Championships on May 18. She won the triple jump with a league record of 39.25 feet, ranking her fifth nationally for sophomores (all leagues, all high schools) and the long jump, also with a league record of 18.7 feet. She then finished second in the 100M hurdles with a personal best of 15.43 and ran the second leg of the second-place 4x400M relay.
A weekend earlier at the Massachusetts Independent School Championships, Gray repeated last year’s wins in triple jump with a league record and in the long jump. She had a second-place finish in 100M hurdles, beating the league record but missing first place by .01 seconds. Gray also ran a leg on the second-place 4x400M relay. She was awarded the Meet MVP for field events for the second consecutive year.
Next month, Gray travels to Greensboro, N.C., for the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, where she willcompete at the championship level in the triple jump and long jump.
