Locals win with Visionary’s sixth-grade team

The Visionary Basketball Group’s Sixth-Grade Boys Gold team qualified and competed in the Amateur Athletic Union Nationals tournament in Hampton, Va., July 7 through 11. After a successful spring season, the Gold team, which includes players from Andover, played against some of the top sixth-grade teams in the country, ultimately finishing eighth nationally in its bracket. Prior to the tournament, the team participated in a six-hour practice that included strength and conditioning with three-time Super Bowl winner and former Patriots running back Patrick Pass.

Lawrence Rotary Cup Golf Tournament tees off Sept. 9

The Lawrence Rotary Club will hold its Lawrence Rotary Cup Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 9, at Four Oaks Country Club Golf Course in Dracut. The public is invited to participate in the scramble-format tournament that begins with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Golfers are encouraged to arrive at noon for registration and lunch. Following the tournament, there will be cocktails in the clubhouse at 5:30 p.m. and dinner, raffle and prizes at 6:30 p.m..

The cost is $175 per golfer, $700 for a foursome. Proceeds will support the Lawrence Rotary’s Scholarship Fund and other Merrimack Valley charities. For registration and more information, go to http://lawrcup.golfreg.com.
