Routinely in top 10: Synchro team shines at US championships

ANA Synchro, the synchronized swim team from the Andover/North Andover YMCA, recently returned from the US Age Group Championships in Oxford, Ohio.

Hosting 89 teams and 1011 swimmers, this event is the largest competition of synchronized swimmers in the world, according to the team.

"ANA athletes performed exceptionally, placing nine routines in the top 10 — a truly outstanding accomplishment for these local swimmers," reported Betsy Quinn of ANA Synchro.

Included in the top 10 placements was a bronze medal for a trio performance by the trio of Andover swimmers Grace Alwan, Reverie Nedde and Lindi Schroeder.

Other Andover team members who were part of top-10 finishes for their age group were:

Nicole Carzo, Sachiko Hagiya, Gloria McNamara and Caitlin Klauer of Andover, finished sixth in the team competition for the 16-17 age group. Their teammates were Anna Barnes of Ipswich, Evan Costanzo and Kate Quinn of North Andover, and Lily Koenig of Boxford.

In the solo competitions, Andover swimmers Lindi Schroeder finished eighth in the 11-12 age group, and Caitlin Klauer finished 10th for the 13- to 15-year-olds.

Candace Ju of Andover, along with Laura Schmidt of Hollis, N.H. and Alison Ziel of North Andover, finished eighth in the trio competition for the 18-19 age group.

Grace Alwan, Sophia Ju, Anna Lang, Reverie Nedde, Lindi Schroeder and Riley Spring of Andover were part of the team that took sixth place in the 11-12 age group. Other team members were Jennifer Li of Concord and Jessica Wu of North Andover.
