Andover High Athletes of the Week

Matt, a 6-foot-3, 286-pound offensive tackle, stepped up his game recently in Andover High’s 39-10 win over Lawrence. A two-year starter who was the cornerstone of last year’s line that led Andover High to the MVC championship and the playoffs, Matt has been even better in 2013. Andover quarterbacks threw for 244 yards and four TDs thanks to Matt’s work. Matt is a very good student and has applied early admission to Hobart College in New York, where he is expected to play football. Coach E.J. Perry’s comments: “He is the best run blocker on the team and he grades out with 90-percent efficiency each week in the lineman grading prompts. He’s not only a great player, but he’s a great leader, too.”

At the recent MVC Division I Championship, Maeve won the 100 backstroke and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle. She was also a member of the second-place medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Maeve is a quad-captain and has been a member of three state champion relays, with hopes of making it four straight in two weeks. She recently committed to swim for the Central Connecticut University Blue Devils. Coach Marilyn Fitzgerald’s comments: “Maeve has been an integral part of the Andover High swim and dive team and has been a success since her first race as a freshman.”
