A farewell to fields for AAA All-Star Game

Andover Youth Baseball’s AAA Division players took to the ball fields at Chandler Road Sunday, June 2, for its annual All-Star Game and Home Run Derby.

It marked the last time the 10- to 12-year-olds of the league would hold the events on Chandler Road. Next year, play will move to the new Dyermond Park on Blanchard Street, which is scheduled to open later this year.

Colin Elliott of the Tigers claimed the Home Run Derby title, slamming 10 home runs in round one and following it up with four in round two to earn his trophy.

Two simultaneous split-team/league games were also played, resulting in a pair of hard-fought games that demonstrated the skills of this year’s all-stars.

The Canaligator, the mascot for the Lowell Spinners, was on hand to liven up the day. Rounding out the fun was live entertainment from the Phillies’ Robbins Family and music supplied by DJ Johnny Rocca.

Donations to defray the cost of building the new ball fields are still being accepted. Contributions of any amount can be sent to the Andover Little League, P.O. Box 338, Andover.
