Andover blasts Central for Hoope for Hope title

The defending Division 1 state champion Andover girls basketball team recently showed the upcoming winter could be another special one with an emphatic summer statement.

Led by 28 points from star Nicole Boudreau, the Golden Warriors blasted archrival Central Catholic 64-37 to win the Hoops for Hope summer basketball title.

"We came out and wanted to make a statement," said tourney MVP Nicole Boudreau. "We wanted to show we're the team to beat in the winter. It's definitely cool winning the summer league."

Andover jumped out to a 20-4 lead and never looked back.

Boudreau hit seven 3-pointers to lead the Warriors. Star point guard Natalie Gomez-Martinez chipped in with 18 points, while 2009-10 sixth man Devon Caveny added 13 points.

"This was very important," said Gomez-Martinez. "Yeah, it's only summer, but we take it very seriously. I told the girls before the game that we have to make a statement now because everything matters."
