---- — Andover resident Gary M. Coon was named managing director of Major League Investments Inc., a family office serving professional athletes, celebrities, media personalities, executives, entrepreneurs, elected officials and affluent families.
In his capacity as managing director, Coon leads expansion of the firm’s practice providing VIP Investment Advisor and Celebrity CFO services to executives transitioning to new firms, senior executives at technology startups, political candidates/elected officials, and professional athletes.
Coon brings over 20 years leadership experience in business and government, according to a company release.
He served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, where he was elected by his colleagues to serve as Assistant Minority Whip, a member of the legislative leadership. Coon served on the committees on Commerce and Labor, and Taxation, and on the Ways & Means Committee.
He also served as chief of staff of the Registry of Motor Vehicles and as executive director of the Massachusetts Republican Party.
He has a background in the venture capital industry as a research analyst with Venture Economics and as an investment analyst for Zero Stage Capital, an early stage, high-technology venture capital firm in Cambridge, Mass.
Coon received his bachelor’s degree from Babson College, where he majored in investments and entrepreneurial studies. He also earned his MBA, cum laude, from Babson College.
Coon has served as a board director of Creative Living Inc., a founding member of the Service Club of Andover, and an ex-officio director of the Merrimack Valley Regional Employment Board.
He was honored for his contributions to the community as the recipient of Andover’s Distinguished Citizen Award for 1996. He is an ardent fan of the Boston sports teams, particularly the Boston Red Sox, and helps promote the philanthropic initiatives of professional athletes and sports teams via BayStateSports.com.
