Townspet of the Week: Murphy

Four-year-old Murphy — the Shattuck family’s 165-pound Newfoundland — is truly a gentle giant. Murphy has been part of Mike and Michelle Shattuck’s home since he was 8 months old. His owners say he is smart, loving, obedient and loyal, and loves to be pet by all, especially his three kids — Matthew, Meredith and Madison. When Murphy approves of someone’s petting technique, he’ll settle in by turning his back on them and sitting at — OK, maybe on — their feet. Murphy, who lives on Greybirch Road, is well known around Andover as he regularly attends ball games, parades, concerts and other community events. He is often photographed by locals, who routinely want to know his breed, how much he eats and how someone rides him. Don’t be afraid to say hello if you see Murphy around town. He loves all the attention — and he’ll try his best not to drool on you.
