A soda fountain is being installed in the fruit store of P. Simeone and Company.
Mrs. R. Nichol of 8 Cuba St. and Mrs. W. Mackenzie of 94 North Main St. enjoyed Wednesday in Boston, visiting the Electric Show and other places.
A man who claimed he was a native of Andover, was arrested by the local police on Saturday night for drunkenness. He was given a hearing on Monday afternoon and fined a small sum.
The Andover firemen are engaged in perfecting their plans for their annual ball on Thanksgiving eve. The usual large attendance and enjoyable evening is anticipated.
One of the sights of the town for the past month has been the half-acre of white asters blooming in rare profusion on the grounds of Brooks F. Holt in Scotland district.
75 Years Ago—Oct. 22, 1937
Andover’s merchants, under the sponsorship of the merchants’ committee of the Andover Service club, are holding a Harvest Sale on Monday and Tuesday of next week, with many of them offering special bargains and some announcing a straight 10 or even 20 percent cash discount of all purchases made those two days.
The October meeting of the Greater Lawrence Christian Endeavor societies was held last Sunday afternoon in the Free church. Rev. Julius Mitchell, pastor of the Third Baptist church of Lawrence led the devotional meeting. Misses Ruth and Martha Henning of Lawrence sang a duet.
The Andover Guild will open for the season Nov. 1. Registration will continue throughout the week.
Mrs. Donald Laurie was installed as noble grand for the local Rebekah lodge on Monday evening, with District Deputy President Miss Lottie Pettingill and Deputy Marshal Miss Louise Hurt and staff of Lynn in charge.
50 Years Ago—Oct. 25, 1962
A special, commemorative edition will be found in this week’s Townsman—in celebration of the newspaper’s 75th birthday.
Andover’s business district will be clothed in “all new” Christmas decorations, according to President Raymond B. DeRuisseau of the Andover Board of Trade, which is promoting the lights in cooperation with the business and professional men of Andover. English Lantern pole decorations will be featured on the 21 street lights in downtown Andover.
The Andover Junior Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Horribles Parade Halloween nights. The parade will form at the corner of Elm and High streets at 6 p.m.
Rogers Brook bids were advertised Tuesday in Boston papers, and will be opened at the Division of Waterways on Nashua street, Boston Nov. 6.

Park Street Development Trust will have to negotiate with the planning board if the group wants to continue with plans to renovate the old Andover Lanes Bowling Alley for use as retail space.
A divided Board of Selectmen voted Monday night not to forward to the state a recommendation by the Andover Housing Partnership Committee that the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agencyfund Winn Development’s Brookside Estates comprehensive permit proposal.
What is a Spooktacular? It is an event you do not want to miss. The Spooktacular for children ages 2-14, consists of 50-yard dashes, pumpkin and jack-o-lantern (decorated and brought from home) judging, costume judging and storytelling. It will take place Thursday, Oct. 29, at Recreation Park off Abbot Street from 6 to 8 p.m.
