Rousing Winter Warm-up for Andover K of C

The Andover Townsman

---- — More than 225 people from across the Merrimack Valley turned out to celebrate Andover Knights of Columbus 1078’s fifth annual Winter Warm-Up Dinner Dance at Tewksbury Country Club on Feb. 1.

The gathering honored Bridget Shaheen, director of Lazarus House ministries in Lawrence, for her more than 20 years of service to the community.

The Lazarus House ministers to the homeless and all those in need by providing them with food, clothing, shelter, training and, most importantly, support and encouragement. St. Augustine Parish in Andover has had a partnership with Lazarus House for many years.

The event also included a silent auction and raffle. A portion of the proceeds from the raffle was donated to support Lazarus House Ministries.

The Knights of Columbus is a men’s Catholic fraternal organization founded in 1882 by Fr. Michael McGivney on the principle of charity. The organization’s outreach work includes supporting youngsters in Scouting, providing supplies for those in need and helping fund housing for veterans.

In recent months, the Andover Knights have helped support a Special Olympics at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill and raised funds for the state Knights of Columbus’ charity efforts with a local Tootsie Roll Drive.

All Catholic men are invited to join the local chapter. For more information, visit
