Troop Challenge benefit gearing up

The Andover Townsman

---- — Competitors and charitable cheerleaders are being sought for the second annual Yang’s Townwide Troop Challenge to benefit Homes for Our Troops on Friday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Yang’s Fitness & Wellness Center, 5 Dundee Park, Andover.

Organizers say the event combines good, healthy competition for a great cause, raising money and awareness for April’s Run for the Troops 5K in Andover, which benefits the Homes for Our Troops initiative.

The area’s toughest contenders are invited to compete in timed military fitness events, including push-ups, pull-ups, jump rope, wall sits, abdominal crunches and treadmill climb.

More than 100 contenders and spectators attended last year’s event, which raised more than $2,400 for the cause.

This year, participants may compete individually or as part of a team. Prizes will be awarded to the top female and male in each individual event and to the top three teams.

Proceeds from this year’s event will help to build a home for injured veteran Army Sgt. Matt Dewitt of Concord, N.H.

Registration for competitors are now being accepted. Those who sign up by Friday, Jan. 17, will receive a free, commemorative T-shirt. Tickets for spectators, which are $25, are also available.

To sign up or for more information, visit or contact Diana Kiesel at or 978-475-2020.
