Synchronized toasting to life

Toasts are popular on New Year’s Eve and at weddings. But the 60 residents gathered at Atria Marland Place last Thursday afternoon, Jan. 31, were invited to toast themselves and the thousands of other Americans who live in similar Atria communities.

The coast-to-coast synchronized toast involved 13,000 seniors from 27 states in Atria communities like Marland Place, all of whom were asked to lift their glasses promptly at 4 p.m.

“The toast marked the end of a Resident Appreciation Month, a 31-day celebration of the residents who make their homes at Atria Senior Living communities across the nation,” according to Donna Burns, senior executive director at Atria Marland Place on Stevens Street. “The Atria family, both residents and employees, toasted to celebrate the wonderful contributions that Atria residents bring to the lives of our employees each day, as well as honor their past and present contributions to society.”

Marland Place residents enjoyed live music, a “Hat Parade,” ice cream social, and games to cap the month long series of events.
