His parody of the Twilight books had him wearing a vampire cape on his dream date. But blood-sucking jokes are too typical, so Andover High School junior Casey Schuh agonized over a punch line to die for. He succeeded.
"I know what you are," his date said. "You are a math teacher."
Math is not his favorite subject, is all Casey would say about the jab. The punch line was not directed at a particular teacher; he was just having fun with the Mr. AHS competition.
Schuh came out as the new Mr. AHS and has felt like sort of a king in the hallways this week at school.
"I feel great about it," he said. "It puts a smile on a face when you tell people...it's a good title to have."
Schuh said he was relaxed as audiences don't terrify him. He has been involved with school productions over the years and performs with the Andover High School Jazz Ensemble.
His mom, Kathy, made his vampire cape. She and his dad, David, were very supportive of his skits, which helped with rehearsals. The family lives on Ivy Lane.
The grand prize for Mr. AHS is a free prom ticket and free tuxedo rental for the event. Schuh plans to escort his girlfriend, Catherine Carney, also an AHS junior. She inspired the Twilight parody as he read the books just for her, he said.
Mr. AHS is a great event to be involved with, Schuh said, and he saluted those involved including the technical crew, advisor Etta Wagner and producer Derek Monson for the jobs they performed.
