Charles W. Burtt, who has been employed first in the factory and lately in the office of the Tyer Rubber Company for many years, has been appointed a traveling salesman for that concern and will have the Middle West as his territory, with Cincinnati as his headquarters.
A rummage sale will be held at the Guild House on Saturday, March 8, and the committee in charge request that all persons having saleable articles which they will give are asked to send names to the Guild House or notify the committee. Donations of all kinds will be appreciated.
The Free Church Christian Endeavor Society held a Washington’s Birthday social in the parish house on Friday evening which was much enjoyed by those in attendance. Games were played and refreshments served.

Andover will be represented in the state gubernatorial campaigns this year as the result of the announcement Tuesday by Moderator Frederick Butler that he would be a candidate for the Republican nomination for governor.
The Andover Police Relief Association held its annual concert and ball last Friday night in the town hall with a very large crowd present to enjoy a pleasing entertainment program and the ensuing dancing.
On Tuesday afternoon at three o’clock the November club will be the meeting place for the League of Women Voters. The subject for discussion will be the “Town Warrant” with particular emphasis on (1) the Retail Sales Tax, and (2) the Installation of a Generating Plant for the School System.

Candidates for the town’s major offices went down to the wire swinging this week, with Monday’s election deadline in plain view. Issues came into sharp focus at two candidates nights—at the North District School Monday night and at the High School Tuesday evening.
The Finance Committee is recommending budgets totaling $3,905,667, for adoption at Town Meeting. The committee also suggests using $278,500, from free cash, to pay for special articles, $50,000 from this amount to reduce the tax rate.

The action-packed School Committee meetings that attracted large crowds have vanished. Budget talk has appeared. The hard work and long hours associated with fine-tuning the year-long school budget began at Tuesday night’s School Committee meeting. The next month will be spent reviewing, revising and approving the budget for the 1988-’89 school year.
Students from Andover High and Doherty and West junior high schools tried their luck and talent this week during auditions for the musical “Grease.”
Joshua L. Miner, Outward Bound USA founding trustee and former dean of admissions for Phillips Academy, was given the honor or presenting Outward Bound’s highest award to His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. The award ceremony concluded Outward Bound’s 1987 year-long 25th anniversary celebration.
