The Andover Townsman
---- — Five volunteers from Friends of Andover Community Trees recently withstood the heat to tend to the young trees at the new Deyermond Park, future home to Andover’s Little League and soccer teams.
The group removed support wires and stakes from about 20 young trees at the Blanchard Street park, essentially “freeing” them from the barriers that had started to constrict growth.
The volunteers say their timely action will help the trees grow quickly so they can provide welcome shade for fans at the new park, which will open later this year.
Superintendent Paul Sanborn says he welcomed the group’s help with the task, which had been delayed as his department addressed more pressing work.
