Harvard grads prepare to sail back in time

Graduates are welcome to join the Harvard Club of Andover and sail away on the privateer vessel “Lynx” from Marblehead Harbor on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Lynx is a reconstructed privateer schooner and a national treasure, according to Richard Soohoo, Andover resident and club president. The ship and her seafaring passengers are immersed in the history of her battles during the War of 1812 when the Lynx struggled to defend the United States against the British navy. Her crew dress in period costumes. The topsail schooner sails using 1812 sailing techniques.

The Lynx participated in the July 2012 Boston Tall Ships visit and with the Pride of Baltimore reenacted ship battles in Boston Harbor.

Harvard graduates are welcome to direct “Lynx sailaway” questions to Diane Huster husterd@aol.com or Mike Terry terrymike72@gmail.com

The Harvard Club of Andover welcomes new members who are graduates of all Harvard University schools, faculty members or administrative staff. For more information about the Harvard Club of Andover, visit harvardclubofandover.com or contact Richard Soo Hoo, president, at 978-470-2293 or richsoohoo@aol.com.
