Faith Lutheran teens assist Hurricane Sandy victims - again

Seven local teens plus four chaperones equal a grateful Lutheran Camp in New Jersey which suffered extensive Hurricane Sandy damage.

The team of volunteers from Faith Lutheran Church on Route 28 in Andover helped Faith Cross Roads Lutheran Camp clean up after the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. More than 1,000 trees blew down on the property, which offers rope courses for campers. A huge amount of branches needed to be removed.

“It was just a mess,” said chaperone Diane Dahl of Andover. “So we cleared lots of trees and got them out of the way.”

The group from Andover worked hard stacking wood, clearing brush and cutting down trees.

“It was hard work, but the kids were great,” Dahl said of the Feb. 15 to 19 trip.

The camp treated the Andoverites to meals and accommodations. When the work was done, the group stopped in Manhattan for some well-deserved fun, she said. They also visited St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Hoboken, N.J. The group went to a jazz worship service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New York City.

This was the second time Faith Lutheran sponsored a mission trip to assist Hurricane Sandy victims.
