Ret. Col. Perry honored for service to veterans

Retired Air Force Col. Calvin Perry was surprised at West Middle School recently with an award for his service to veterans.

Perry is a retired United States Air Force Reserve Officer who currently serves on Andover’s Patriotic Holiday Committee. He also serves on the board of directors for the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center in Haverhill.

“He also volunteers at the Hanscomb Air Force Base Retiree Office,” according to Mike Burke, Andover Veterans Services director. “Truly deserving of this recognition.”

The award was emblazoned with the town seal of Andover, matted and framed. It was presented to Perry at a school assembly to honor Veterans Day, held on Friday, Nov. 9. Col. Perry’s wife, Mary Ann Perry, was in attendance.

Presented by Burke and West Middle Principal Stephen Murray, the award reads, “In recognition of your years of service in defense of our nation. Your efforts, willingness and compassion in giving the best years of your life, serving our nation as a United States Air Force officer, are in the highest tradition of patriotism. On behalf of West Middle School and Andover’s veterans, we extend a sincere thank you and a job well done.”
