Resident writes about the media and activism
Resident Sarah Sobieraj, who moved to town in August 2010, had her first book published last week, "Soundbitten: The Perils of Media-Centered Political Activism."
She teaches about mass media at Tufts University.
Columbia University professor Todd Gitlin, author of "The Whole World is Watching: Mass Media in the Making and Unmaking of the Left," is quoted as saying, "'Soundbitten' is an astute, engagingly written study of the dynamics and costs of media obsession by activist groups. Sarah Sobieraj busts the cliché©s of both movement organizations and sociologists with aplomb."
