Law firm's general counsel giving back to The Mother Connection

Wilson If's general counsel, Tara K. Wilson, has been appointed to the executive board of The Mother Connection. Wilson began her two-year term on the board effective June 1.

The Mother Connection is a non-profit organization that recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. The organization is based in Andover, with membership of over 500 local families in more than 30 surrounding communities. It is coordinated by an operating and advisory board to provide information, resources, support, and recreation for mothers and their families.

Wilson was an attorney at two of the nation's Top 100 law firms — Howrey, LLP in Washington, D.C., and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Maegher, & Flom, LLP in Boston — before founding Wilson If, a boutique law firm specializing in customized estate and small business planning located in Andover, and Washington, D.C. While at Howrey and Skadden, Wilson frequently performed pro bono legal services for non-profit organizations and individuals seeking advice and litigation counsel, according to a release. "As a member of The Mother Connection since 2008, Wilson is proud to give back to an organization that has been a pillar of support to local families over the past three decades," according to the release.

In addition to the current services The Mother Connection provides to its members — including a monthly newsletter, access to the family center for play dates and other events, workshops, children's field trips and parties, special events, a website, and several support groups — Wilson will be initiating a new pilot program for all members. "Office Hours," a recurring monthly pro bono legal service beginning this September, will give members who seek legal advice or a referral an opportunity to meet with an attorney at the family center at no cost.
