Rotary Thanksgiving food drive

The Andover Rotary Club is encouraging residents to help the less fortunate have a hunger-free Thanksgiving this year.

Its Thanksgiving food drive runs through Thursday, Nov. 19. Nonperishable food items can be donated at several businesses in town, including the Andover Townsman office, 33 Chestnut St.

Rotary members package the donated food items into boxes, add turkeys and all the fixings, and give them to Merrimack Valley families through the Andover Housing Authority, Lazarus House, Bread and Roses and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Each year, the Andover Rotary Club delivers more than 200 Thanksgiving boxes with turkeys, said organizer Paula Evans.

"We are always looking to make a holiday a happier one by helping the less fortunate. Any and all donations a appreciated and accepted," said Evans in an e-mail.
