Fitness enthusiasts sweat it out for wounded veterans

---- — About 45 competitors put their mettle to the test last Friday for the second annual Town-wide Troop Challenge sponsored by Yang’s Fitness & Wellness Center in Dundee Park.

The event raised about $1,600 for the Homes for Our Troops initiative. This year’s proceeds will support the construction of a new home for injured veteran Army Sgt. Matt Dewitt of Concord, N.H.

Close to 100 people turned out to watch the various timed military strength and fitness events.

Yang’s Shaolin/Kung Fu Team won the team competition, with Yang’s Fitness Instructor Team finishing second and Lawtown Mudders coming in third.

The male and female winners in the individual categories were:

Jump Rope (two minutes): Jamey Lachiana, 373; Susan Lucy, 303

Push-ups (two minutes): Chris Fazio, 113; Danielle Benson, 110

Abdominal In & Outs (two minutes): Chuck Hanes, 158; Danielle Benson, 170

Backpack Treadmill Climb (45-pound pack, five minutes, treadmill incline 10: Alex Gamble, .55 mile; Ana Avellan, .50 mile

Pull-ups/Dead Hang (two minutes): Wilson Man, 29 pull-ups; Paula Perry, 1.48 dead hang

Wall Sit (last person sitting): Marko Duffy, Denise Dionne
