Two Maasai warriors wrapped up a month-long trip to the U.S. last week with a visit to Andover to speak with local groups and raise money to benefit youth in their Kenyan village of Intashart.
Community social worker “John” Kilenyi Parsitau and Chief “Joseph” Ole Tipanko were on a mission for MAGSA-OUTREACH.
In a presentation to seniors at the Center at Punchard, Parsitau said the organization provides funding and support to allow Kenyan children to go to school in and around their villages as well as opportunities, particularly for young girls, to avoid the social inequalities facing them in Africa.
The men had made stops in Colorado, Washington, D.C.; New York, Pennsylvania and elsewhere before arriving in Andover, where they stayed in the home of a resident with ties to the Intashart village.
Tipanko also visited Andover for a week in 2010. Both trips were coordinated by Andover Youth Services.
