The Andover Townsman
---- — It’s been a busy summer so far for Andover Youth Service’s True Grit program. Assistant Director Glenn Wilson said there have already been more than 30 activities this season, with another 40 or so planned over the next few weeks.
Now in its 19th season, the summer program wants to get more local youths out from behind their computer screens and into the world on fun-filled adventures, Wilson said.
Here is an update on how the summer is going and some of the highlights of what’s still to come, courtesy of True Grit summer staffers Colleen Shannon and Nick Gentile:
“We’ve tubed, surfed, barbecued, ice creamed and we’ve zip lined. We ventured to Boston, spent time in Rhode Island, relaxed on the Cape and conquered Martha’s Vineyard. Luckily, there are more adventures around the bend.
“Our second overnight voyage to Martha’s Vineyard rolls out of town as we approach August. Join us on a classic trip to Hampton Beach for a day of shake ‘n’ bakes and splash fights, or rage the white rapids of Krusin’ the Kennebec. Love roller coasters? Come to Six Flags with us. Our future is chock full of sweet trips.
“Want to pay it forward? Come serve the community with us. Lightning trigger finger? Put your skills to the test with some paintball. Wanna live? Live AYS. Show us your heart, your humility and your hard work. Show us some Grit. Come experience all that AYS has to offer in our True Grit summer. We’d love to have you.”
