The Andover Townsman
---- — Yeager is part boxer, part mastiff and “the rest just awesome,” according to his owner, Joyce Smith, of Wild Rose Drive. The 41/2-year-old was adopted by the Smith family from PAWS of New England when he was 3 months old. The family rescued him from a high-kill shelter in Tennessee, where they say he had no future. Now, the 70-pound Yeager (who carries his weight primarily in the muscle in his tail) has become an integral part of the family, with Smith’s 12-year-old son, Andrew, his main provider. His latest trick is catching biscuits shot from a popping toy into the air. His record is eight biscuits in a row, just a small snack for a dog his size, Smith says. He’s also best pals with Oscar, a dachshund owned by Smith’s sister, Joanne, who lives with the family. “They really love each other and play together all the time,” Smith says. “They’re kind of cousins.”
