Townspet of the Week: Chewy

Chewy, a rescue dog from Georgia, had a rough start to life in the south. The 3-year-old Labrador with some golden features wasn’t happy until he was brought to New England and adopted by the Amirault family. Now living on Shawsheen Road, he is quickly adjusting to his new life in Andover. Chewy doesn’t shy from attention.

The playful canine enjoys looking out the window and barking “hello” to children on their way to school and other dogs walking by. The kids all wave and laugh with him. He also loves taking rides in the family truck and is known to stick his head out as far as possible, drawing smiles from passersby.

Chewy has beefed up since his arrival in Andover, going from being very thin and not eating much to now weighing almost 100 pounds and being put on a diet. O

ne of Chewy’s weaknesses is Beggin’ Strips, and he will occasionally crave them at 2 and 3 a.m., pretending he needs to go to the bathroom to connive one of the treats from his dad.

The Amiraults say Chewy has been a wonderful addition to their family.
