Robert J. O'Sullivan of Andover was recently presented the "Leadership Award" by the Lawrence Bar Association honoring him for "his years of outstanding service to the legal and general community." The Leadership Award is the most prestigious award presented by the Lawrence Bar Association to its members, according to the association.
O'Sullivan has been practicing law in the Greater Lawrence area for 38 years.
He began the practice of law with his father, Robert V. O'Sullivan in the firm of O'Sullivan & O'Sullivan. Shortly thereafter, he worked for the Essex Country district attorney's office from 1973 to 1977 and served as city solicitor for the city of Lawrence from 1977 to 2001.
He then returned to private practice and is presently a partner in the firm of Oakley, O'Sullivan & Eaton in Andover.
O'Sullivan is a long-time member of the Lawrence Bar Association and served as president of the Bar Association in 1988. He also served on the board of directors of the Greater Lawrence Legal Aid Society and the Greater Lawrence Day Treatment Center for Adults. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, he served on its board of directors for 15 years, including three as president.
O'Sullivan has been a member of the Holy Family Hospital Men's Guild Board since 1987, serving as president from 1998-2000 and Capital Campaign co-chairman in 2000. He also served as president of the Mary Immaculate Health Care Board from 2003-2005. Additionally, since 1988, he has served as a trustee of the Charles G. Pringle Foundation, a charitable trust that provides grants to organizations that provide assistance to the people of Lawrence.
O'Sullivan and his wife, Barbara have three children.
