Jennifer Hunt will take the reins of West Elementary School in August.
Hunt, who has served as the principal of Clarke Elementary School in Swampscott for five years, has been appointed principal of West Elementary.
Her appointment follows the retirement of long-time principal Liz Roos, who is leaving behind a 30-year legacy with her departure at the end of the school year.
“It is clear to me that Andover has established a learning environment which is founded on trust and a sense of belonging," Hunt said in a written statement. "Inclusivity and diversity are large parts of my educational philosophy and I know these are important tenets of the West Elementary community."
Prior to assuming her role as a principal, Hunt taught elementary school for 13 years in Northborough. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Worcester State University, and her master’s degree in school administration from American International College in Springfield.
Hunt's background advances far beyond teaching, as she was heavily involved in different committees and organizations in Swampscott, such as the Professional Development and Digital Learning Committees, Cultural Competency Committee and School Building Committee.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jennifer as the next principal of West Elementary,” said Superintendent Sheldon Berman in a written statement. “Throughout the interview process, it was clear that her deep understanding of student learning and instruction aligned well with our goals at APS. We know Jennifer’s leadership will continue the outstanding work of Liz Roos and her team at West El.”
