Hip-pop artist Geena Duffy releases new album

Local "hip-pop" artist Geena Duffy is about to release her upcoming album, The Placebo Effect.

The 21-year-old will be kicking off the release with a show at Lowell's UnchARTed Gallery & Studios with DJ Dugas and Infamous A on June 14.

The album has seven tracks and is the artist's "most personal project to date," she said in a press release. Common themes include love, conquering insecurities, and finding who you are.

"I've definitely grown a lot since my last project, both as a person and a musician." Duffy says. "I really took pride in not only being true to myself in this project, but I wrote, recorded, and mixed every song myself. This is also my first project without any features."

The singles "Fool" and "Confident" can be heard on the singer's SoundCloud.

The Placebo Effect is set to be released June 21 on all digital platforms.

The singer-songwriter, rapper, and instrumentalist, who lives in Andover, first gained popularity in 2014 after opening for Warner Brothers Records recording artist Neon Hitch on her Yard Sale tour.

She released her debut EP Blue Skies White Lights in 2016, with her breakthrough singles "Paper Airplanes" and "Honest", and her third EP Rewind in 2017. She has since toured with multiple local artist has over 70,000 total plays across all streaming platforms.
