It’s a busy musical weekend ahead for Andover Baptist Church, which has two concerts planned.
First up is a unique concert collaboration with Temple Emanuel of Andover. Rabbi Robert Goldstein said in anticipation of the upcoming observance of Passover, and to honor the memories of three martyrs of the civil rights movement, the Andover Baptist Church Choir will join with members of Temple Emanuel in a “Voices of Freedom” celebration on Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m.
The free concert, to be held at Temple Emanuel, 7 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover, will feature music from both the African-American and Jewish traditions with an emphasis on bringing together people with a shared history of oppression.
The evening will begin with a brief service led by Goldstein and Cantor Idan Irelander. Then, the baptist church’s choir and musical ensemble led by music director Michael Belcher will perform. The public is invited.
Then on Saturday, March 29, Andover Baptist Church’s Unity Choir presents a gospel concert fundraiser at 6 p.m. at the church, 7 Central St.
The choir will be accented by soloists Lura Smith and Anita Maldonado as well as the Rev. Dr. Gregory E. Thomas Institute Choir and a performance by Heavenly Hits.
Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door.
