And, the winner is: Splash!
Five-year-old Milo Frost of Andover named and colored the new mascot for Pomps Pond and Splash will be at several events to kick off the recreational area's seasonal opening on Saturday, June 22.
More than 60 young artists from across town, who like to color and name their works, entered the Recreation Department's contest to name the mascot. Milo's name and image won. For his work he received a free Pomps Pond beach pass, worth $150.
"It was a successful contest," said Recreation Director Chris Dempsey.
Milo was notified of his winning on May 1 as the Recreation Department kicked off its early bird program for Pomps Pond beach passes. Residents can buy a beach pass for $100 through June 21 while seniors pay $75. As of June 22, the price is $150 and $90 for seniors.
Dempsey said Splash will be busy next month not only at the grand opening but also at the summer kickoff event, Wednesday, June 12, 5 to 7 p.m., during which visitors can check out pond offerings with pizza, snacks and drinks being sold.
It's also an opportunity to meet counselors and program directors. Beach passes will be sold and paddle boarding introductory lessons will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. for a cost of $15 per person. A bounce house will be set up and children can get their faces painted.
