On the 18th anniversary of Sept. 1, 2001, state officials, town officials, residents, and members of the Andover police and fire departments gathered to remember and honor the people killed that day.

The somber ceremony was held Wednesday morning of last week outside the Town Offices. Veterans Services Director Mark Comeiro said nearly 60 people were in attendance.

Students from Doherty Middle School showed up in large numbers, and two students sang the national anthem. Another student read the poem "Nation of Survivors."

A wreath-laying ceremony around the flag pole was held to honor the four Andover killed that day: Christopher Morrison, in the World Trade Center; Millie Naiman, on American Airlines Flight 11; Betty Ong, on American Airlines Flight 11; and Len Taylor, on American Airlines Flight 77.
