Andover resident Craig Schorer was recently named a 2019 local hometown hero by Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union in Lowell.
Schorer was one of four people chosen from a total of 35 submissions. Throughout the month of May, the Credit Union gave community members the opportunity to nominate individuals they felt go above and beyond in their communities.
Schorer is a volunteer hockey coach and was nominated by the mother of one of his former players, Michelle Tautkus. In honor of one of his players, Schorer will be running in a marathon to support the research and awareness of Type I Diabetes. He has raised nearly $4,000 so far.
Each recipient of the hometown hero award received a personalized plaque and a $250 prize.
