Begonias on Garden Club's agenda

A “Whirlwind Tour of Begonias” will be the topic of the Tuesday, Nov. 5 meeting of the Andover Garden Club.

The presentation will be led by flower designer Mary Beth Hayes of Chelmsford, a begonia specialist who serves as vice president of the Buxton Branch of the American Begonia Society. Hayes is a certified judge for society shows and co-chaired the recent Tower Hill Botanical Garden begonia show.

She has studied floral arranging with such notable designers as Francoise Weeks, Hitomi Gilliam and Holly Heider Chapple. Her floral arrangements reflect seasonal, nature-based themes.

Hayes will discuss how to grow and care for begonias and incorporate them into floral arrangements.

Those who attend will make their own leaf, stem, or rhizome cutting, and thereby take a baby begonia home.

The meeting starts at 10 a.m. with social time and refreshments, followed by a brief business meeting and the program at South Church, 41 Central St., Andover

The public is encouraged to take advantage of this program. A $10 donation is encouraged.

The Andover Garden Club always welcomes new members. Information about joining is available from membership co-chairs Liz Bell (belles810@gmail.com, 978-475-3021) and Cathy Starr (cstarr12@comcast.net, 978-475-8473).
