A local equine therapy program for veterans benefited from a pancake event at a local church held, appropriately, on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Twelve local middle school children from the Faith Lutheran Church Youth Group organized the tasty event to salute veterans. There were blueberry, chocolate chip, strawberry and plain pancakes galore with sausages, milk, juice and coffee. About 80 people were served.
"We had a free-will offering and the kids raised over $600 to benefit Ironstone Farm in Andover,'' Tom Schauer, youth director at the church, said of the farm that uses horses for therapy.. "
The farm is trying to build a retreat house to help put together an equine program for veterans and the kids wanted to help. It was really cool seeing the kids interested in service and giving back to the community.''
